Español

I’m bilingual, not bicultural. In Spanish, I’ve written for Aqui Milwaukee and Milwaukee’s Spanish Journal, two very different publications. Aqui Milwaukee was a glossy monthly published by Journal Communications, parent of the daily Journal Sentinel, for which I wrote about music. The Spanish Journal was a more grassroots weekly newsprint paper serving predominantly the city’s south side.

Here are three cover stories for Aqui Milwaukee:

When I wrote for the Spanish Journal, the editor was Robert Miranda, a firebrand activist, veteran and hell of a writer. I’ll always remember Miranda and also the funky offices of the paper itself, in a musty Milwaukee office building downtown.
